Youth Group Sunday

Image may contain: LeeJohnson Erikson, smiling, standing and indoor

So proud of this guy this morning!  He read two prayers that he wrote during Youth Sunday service at church.  KC is a deep thinker and his words were beautiful.  I am so proud of the young man he is becoming.  In only a few weeks he will be 15.  This momma can't quite grasp that.  But I am in awe watching him flower and grow and stretch himself trying new things.

This was the first time he has participated in a Youth Sunday service and the parts he took were very important ones.  Around his neck in this picture is his grandfathers wedding ring on a chain.  His grandfather was a Unitarian Universalist minister.   My mom gave KC that ring a few years ago when she felt he was old enough to appreciate it and care for it.  It means a great deal to him and when he chooses to wear it, it is always a sign of something deeply personal going on.

Remembering 2010

Saying goodbye to 2010.  Doesn't seem possible really that the year has flown by as rapidly as it has.  But here we are, planning our New Years Eve festivities and looking back nightly on the "events" of 2010.  All during the year we have a pocket hanging on the wall where we write notes of things we want to remember.  Some are simple. The fact that our hydrangea had a spectacular season for the first time ever. Some mark kid milestones, like the kids starting an activity or taking initiative in something in a new way.  Some are football scores of Rob's favorite teams. (giggle)  Tonight I took out the slips of paper and there were 63 of them.  So we have decided to read some each night through New Years Eve.  K is at work tonight and Lissa can't read, but everyone else took a few and we read them.  Suddenly the Whale Watch was fresh in our mind, our evenings at the local tot park were warming us despite winters chill.  We remembered KC's home made summer carnival, and Rob's week at away camp.  The cold sub zero winds faded for awhile and by the light of our candles, we remembered.

Blogging Revealed

OK while I haven't been exactly forthcoming about my venture into blog land, I hadn't exactly shouted from the rooftops that I have a blog either. I did mention it in passing to my wife as I explained how I had linked to her blog which she likes me to read. But I did mention it very much in passing knowing full well that my wife often listens with half an ear and likely wouldn't fully notice what I said. Why? Well, the thing is that sometimes I blog about concerns, irritations, whatever in my life. And I think this is a pretty good place to do it. But I don't want to hurt anyone. Realistically most things in life seem pretty small and manageable a few days later. Someone else faces a real tragedy or issue and i find myself saying "I was annoyed over what?" and remembering once more that my life is pretty good. Actually most times way better than pretty good.

Anyway, somehow this weekend the blog subject came up again and this time around she caught that I had a blog. Hmmmmmm. Maybe she will just decide it is boring because I don't put in 50 million pictures with weird captions and quotes. (can you tell i have seen some of the blogs she likes to read? LOL" We shall see.
